pleasant changes

For the most part, every Thursday afternoon the kids and I go to OLA to spend time with the children there. It hasn't always been their choice, but it is the one thing a week that I kind of strongly encourage them to do. When it comes to ministry I want them to have some choices. Thursday afternoons is not one of them.

Yesterday, my mom and I had to go see Sister Fidelia before we actually walked into the children's home. I just assumed that the kids were behind us when I turned around and heard them running towards the home verses the office. When I asked where they were going, they all three said, "We are going to see the babies!"

I am not kidding when I say, that is not how it has always been. However, how pleasant of a change for me to see in my own three. School starts back up for them next week, so I even thought to go at a different time (in the morning, while they are in school). All three said "NO". Why wouldn't we go on Thursday after school? Isn't that sweet? It is a big deal to me that they have gone from Really not looking forward to it to a place of anticipation.

It also shows me that sometimes serving or giving or doing works that are holy and pleasing to the Lord are not always funs or easy to begin with, but sometimes a chore and take a ton out of our time and energy. BUT, with consistency of heart and schedule, it can become the most treasured time you allow yourself to partake in and before you know it, you have changed.

  1. Your kids are great! How cool to see God developing these desires in their hearts as you and John expose them to new things. We are excited to live beside your family and do life together. Not too much longer!

  3. I love your insights and the way you look at life - good reminders. This post makes me wonder... is Agatha still at OLA? I met her shortly after they found her discarded beside a street. She was 9 months at the time and could still not sit up on her own and was swimming in a 3-6 month dress that hung on her. I guess she'd be about 3 1/2 or 4 now... and I just think of her from time to time.
