gus birthday

Today is Gus's birthday! He is ten years old. Can you believe it? double digits... at his age, these are all little stepping stones for maturity and getting more responsibility and maybe some more privileges. Yesterday I went to his school and brought cupcakes. His class is the same as last year and they are just kind to me. Last year when I came, we had just moved here and was still getting used to the homemade cooking thing and the cake I brought crumbled as they brought it to their mouths. This year, the cupcake stayed in tact and they were like, "Mrs. Guckenberger, you are such a good cook!" I know they were just being nice, but I will take it.

Gus's closest friends are the two boys next to him, Debbo and Katwahl and the farthest boy on the right, and his name is Jamine. Anyway, overall, a really nice class. They really are a joy, especially for fourth graders.
Today for his birthday we are going to a restaurant that we enjoy as a family called Net Cafe. Since living here I would say one of our biggest family changes has been the amount we go out to eat. We used to go out once a week, but now it is about once a month or so. At first, it was really hard for me, but now I have gotten used to it and I like that we don't as much. Believe it or not, I just cook more......

Then later today for dinner he has asked for his favorite meal which would be Velveeta macaroni and cheese, (thanks for Pappaw who brought this from the states just for this moment) and watermelon. Now before you say this is the typical children's choice.... I want you to know that I am looking forward to it as much as Gus and personally cannot wait to bite into that processed cheese gew...... and savor the flavor... Ahhhhh, nothing beats that!!

Happy Birthday Gus! We love you!!
